Chiefs free agent pitch lands former $69 million Seahawks All-Pro playmaker for Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs could look to add another playmaker to the offense ahead of the draft, as the team lost Deandre Hopkins in free agency and quarterback Patrick Mahomes likes distributing the ball to multiple different receivers.

The Chiefs didn't sign many players to the offense in free agency, but Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios believes Kansas City should find Mahomes another pass-catching option by signing former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

"Tyler Lockett might be slowing down, but if the Chiefs sign him even on a one-year deal, the team should be in good business. It won’t be perfect, and he isn’t long-term, but Mahomes could bring a spark out of Lockett," Palacios wrote.

The Seahawks released Lockett before the start of free agency, as the veteran had a down year in 2024 and wasn't a massive contributor to the team's offense. Lockett hauled in just 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns last season.

Though he underwhelmed in 2024 and is getting older, Lockett would be a nice addition to the Chiefs' offense. The 32-year-old would serve as a nice security blanket for Mahomes, and his leadership and experience would be incredibly beneficial for the defending AFC champions.

Additionally, Lockett won't be expensive to sign, as Spotrac projects the former All-Pro will land a one-year deal worth $7.7 million. The Chiefs are sitting at around $11.7 million in cap space, per Over the Cap.

Signing Lockett would be a savvy move from general manager Brett Veach, as the former Seahawk could be in for a bounce-back season and flourish in a Kansas City offense that is centered around the short and intermediate passing game.
