Chiefs: Everyone Is Saying the Same Thing About Harrison Butker’s Presidential Endorsement

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a great start to their 2024 NFL season despite several key players being lost for the season due to injury. At 5-0, they enter their Bye Week as one of just two undefeated teams in the NFL (the Minnesota Vikings are the other).

As was the case in the offseason, the Chiefs are talked about for what players do and say off the field almost as much as what they accomplish on it. This is particularly true of Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce due to his relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift. Indeed, he can rarely take a step without it being documented by someone.

Of course, kicker Harrison Butker made himself a household name over the offseason with controversial comments he made during a commencement speech at Benedictine College. While these comments did make him more popular among some fans, others were deeply offended by his derogatory remarks regarding women, Jews, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Butker recently attended a rally for republican senator Josh Howley who is running for reelection in Missouri. During an interview with Fox News, with Howley seated next to him, Butker was asked if his endorsement of the Missouri senator meant he was also endorsing Donald Trump for President of the United States.

In response, Butker said, “Well I am supporting the President that I think will be the most pro-life President, and [I think that’s Donald Trump]. I want us to fight for the unborn, for those most vulnerable.”

Butker said that the pro-choice/pro-life topic is the single most important thing to him when deciding who he is going to endorse and vote for in the upcoming election.

Interestingly, Melania Trump, the former First Lady of the United States, wrote in a recently released memoir, “Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth: individual freedom. What does my body, my choice really mean?”

In a different interview with Fox News earlier this month, Trump admitted he had not read the book, but had told his fourth wife, “We spoke about [her writing a pro-choice message]. And I said, you have to write what you believe. I’m not going to tell what you to do. You have to write what you believe.”

The former President, according to USA Today, also said he would veto a federal abortion ban if re-elected.

Butker did not address any of these things when he endorsed Trump based on his pro-life stance.

As one may have expected, Butker’s endorsement was met with some interesting responses, like this one from former Green Bay Packers quarterback Rich Campbell:

NFL fans had similar thoughts, but also brought up the kicker’s previous comments about women in their responses:

Of course, many conservative fans support Butker and his endorsement. This was evident even at the beginning of the season when his jersey became one of the highest-selling in the NFL.
