As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the upcoming 2024 NFL season, there are still a few areas that they could look to improve. One of those areas is at the running back position.

At this point in time, the Chiefs have Isiah Pacheco as their starter and they were able to re-sign Clyde Edwards-Helaire in free agency. However, they could look to upgrade the position. Dalvin Cook might very well be a name to watch for Kansas City.

Some have suggested that the Chiefs should simply re-sign Jerick McKinnon. He has been with the team for three years now and has always been a quality option if needed. Cook could add a different skill-set though that could be very valuable for the team.

Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a perfect destination for Cook. Here is the explanation that they gave for suggesting that pairing.

“The offense is in good hands with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, but additional help would be nice. They could use a running back to take on some of Jerick McKinnon’s role as a pass-catching back. Dalvin Cook is going to be 29 years old in August, but he could still help with that workload.”

Cook is looking for an opportunity to play this season. Since leaving the Minnesota Vikings, he has yet to find a consistent role, which has been a source of frustration for him. Joining a team like the Chiefs who can give him a role and help him compete for a championship would be a perfect fit.

During the 2023 season, Cook failed to do much on the field. However, just two years ago in 2022 with the Vikings, Cook carried the football 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 39 passes  for 295 yards and two touchdowns.

Those numbers are still more than capable of being produced by Cook. If the Kansas City Chiefs want to sign an impact player on a relatively cheap contract, Cook would be a good move to make.

At 28 years of age, Dalvin Cook simply wants one more opportunity. There are still a few teams out there that could use some running back help. Kansas City is one of them and Cook would be a great fit.

Expect to see Cook find himself a new job in the near future. It will be interesting to see if that new job comes with the Kansas City Chiefs.
