Chiefs Earn Bad-News Grade After 'Negative' Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs have seen a host of players leave, and some come back the other way, but as things stand right now, it is hard to say whether or not the roster is better than a year ago.

Joe Thuney, Justin Reid, Tershawn Wharton, and DeAndre Hopkins were moved on, and Jaylon Moore, Kristian Fulton, Elijah Mitchell, and Jerry Tillery were the big signings.

With still big question marks over the offensive line, despite the signing of Moore, many feel that is a big hole that can be filled via the draft, and the thought is that is exactly what the Chiefs will do.

As far as grading Kansas City's free agency, Pro Football Network has given it a C.

"The Kansas City Chiefs did their main work on Day 1 of free agency early, locking up Jaylon Moore to a two-year deal to be their left tackle," Pro Football Network writes. "The Chiefs addressed their biggest need, but the jury is out on whether they did it well. Re-signing Marquise Brown and Nick Bolton are both smart moves.

"Despite those moves, trading away Thuney and signing an unproven left tackle to be their starter leaves this offseason with a negative feeling overall, as does losing starting safety Justin Reid."

Despite the losses, most have confidence in the defense under Steve Spagnuolo, but it is the offense where many are nervous.

The Chiefs brought back Kareem Hunt, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Marquise Brown, so exactly how well that trio will perform is unknown.

Overall, the Chiefs appear to be running it back with a host of players from last year, with Moore, Fulton, and Mitchell the only additions. Is that enough to have a bounce-back season in 2025?

The Chiefs have enough credits in the bank to warrant letting the cake bake, but it has been a so-so offseason for a team that got curb-stomped in the Super Bowl.
