Chiefs Draw Comparison to One of the NFL’s Biggest Coach-QB Duos

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

The Kansas City Chiefs are back at camp, and although things didn’t end quite the way they had hoped last season, there’s no denying that a lot of teams would like to be in the Chiefs’ shoes. They have one of the league’s best, if not the best, quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and they have a legendary head coach in Andy Reid.

Now, the NFL power rankings are starting to trinkle in, and while it’s still fairly early to look at NFL power rankings, it’s really not too premature. NFL analysts started sharing their power rankings as early as February, so August seems like a reasonable time to seriously look at power rankings. Now, Ralph Vacchiano at Fox Sports has released his 2025 NFL power rankings, and he has the Chiefs in one of the top spots, which is no surprise.

The Kansas City Chiefs and NFL Power Rankings for the 2025-26 Season

In his feature, which was published on Monday, July 28, Vacchiano admits that these are early power rankings that that things could change a lot before the first NFL snap takes place. In the article, he notes, “The summer could change a lot, especially when the preseason games (and the injuries) begin. But for now, here’s our preseason look at how the league is ranked from bottom to top after free agency and the draft, and now that every NFL team has officially opened camp.”

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, he has them at No. 3 on the tally, which is a respectable spot, but we do think they could be higher. What’s better than just the No. 3 showing is that Vacchiano compared Mahomes and Reid to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. We’ll take that comparison any day of the week.

“Ignore the fact that 11 of their 15 wins last season were by one score or less, or that the Eagles blew their doors off in the Super Bowl,” he states in the feature. “Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady of their generation, which means they’re a Super Bowl threat as long as they’re together — no matter who is around them.”

He adds, “And you can bet they will be more motivated than ever after the embarrassing way last season ended for them. They’ll need one last ride out of aging tight end Travis Kelce. A healthy Hollywood Brown could give a needed kick to the offense, too.”

The NFL’s No. 1 Team Going Into the New Season

So, let’s see which team Vacchiano picks as the best in the NFL heading into the 2025-26 season. It’s not a surprise. “The defending champs deserve the No. 1 spot for now, but they only have a tenuous hold on it,” he notes in the piece. He adds that “as long as Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts are healthy, they are as good, deep and talented as any team in the league.”

So, the team to beat is the reigning champions: the Philadelphia Eagles. That hurts, for obvious reasons, but somethings tells me that the Chiefs won’t let a repeat of last season’s Super Bowl happen again. All things considered, now is really an exciting time to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
