The Kansas City Chiefs had some significant holes exposed during a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, which general manager Brett Veach must address throughout the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
Bolstering an offensive line in front of Mahomes that allowed six sacks in the Super Bowl and 36 sacks throughout the season could be the biggest vulnerability for the three-time champions as the 2025 NFl season nears.
However, a long-term replacement for Travis Kelce and some more offensive firepower following Xavier Worthy’s emergence as a rookie and DeAndre Hopkins’ departure via free agency this offseason likely aren’t far behind.
What the Kansas City Chiefs’ Biggest NFL Draft Surprise Might Look Like
While Veach has a potentially surprisingly lengthy list of needs, there’s a scenario where the Chiefs could pull off a shocking pick in the first round of the draft.
In Pro Football Focus NFL analyst Dalton Wasserman’s latest mock draft, one filled with surprise picks for each team, the Chiefs select Ohio State running back Treveyon Henderson at No. 31.
“Chiefs running backs ranked 30th in yards per carry and 31st in explosive runs last season,” Wasserman points out for PFF. “Including the playoffs. While Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt provide toughness and physicality, Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson could inject much-needed explosiveness and pass-catching ability into the backfield.”

While Henderson could add some explosiveness and would be a top of the depth chart weapon in the backfield, it’s tough to envision Veach and the Chiefs eschewing positional value given how deep a running back class this is and how much help Kansas City needs up front.
But, if it comes down to adding a big-play threat to provide some balance which would help Mahomes, Henderson could be a fascinating fit and player to watch for the Chiefs.
