The Kansas City Chiefs could look to the trade market for some help in their running back room.
Cordarrelle Patterson is one of the most talented do-it-all weapons in terms of catching the ball and more that this generation has seen, but he does not have a large role with his current team.
Per David Latham of Last Word on Sports, Patterson is somewhat on the outs with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the team could look to trade him. And he thinks that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a potential landing spot for the veteran back.
"Seeing as he’s played on six separate teams, it’s a little surprising that Andy Reid never got his hands on Cordarrelle Patterson," Latham wrote. "Reid is perhaps the best coach in the league when it comes to scheming targets to the running back, but he hasn’t had a player capable of making the most of those opportunities in quite some time."
The Chiefs have a very solid running back in Isiah Pacheco, and he's beefed up a bit this year to aid in his downhill style. He can also contribute in the passing game, but maybe not in the same way Patterson might.
The 34-year-old running back/receiver/kick returner has had seasons where he has finished with over 450 receiving yards. While he might not be that player anymore as a result of his age, he could certainly bring some of that to the table in Kansas City. ... while helping on special teams as well.
The Chiefs are coming off of a loss in the Super Bowl this past season, so loading up on veterans like Patterson who are hungry for a ring is motivation enough to consider this idea ... especially if the Steelers are prepared to simply trade-dump him.
