The Kansas City Chiefs might be a perfect 8-0 through Week 9 of the NFL season -- but they've been far from dominant in pursuit of a third straight Super Bowl victory.
While it's taken heroics from elite quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' defense, there is certainly room for improvement in Kansas City.
With the trade deadline here, there's a perfect opportunity for the club to improve their roster as they look to compete for the Lombardi Trophy once again.
One player the Chiefs were in the market to trade for was New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
The four-time Pro Bowl would have been a huge addition to a contending squad, but the Chiefs were competing with other teams for his services.
The Washington Commanders won the bidding war, securing his service for draft compensation.
Now, Kansas City is backing out of the trade market, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
"While there's still some time on the clock, I don't expect the Chiefs to be making any more moves before the trade deadline. They tried to make it happen with the Saints for Marshon Lattimore, but it obviously didn't work out," Russini reported.

Kansas City, as mentioned, has squeaked by their victories thus far. There are plenty of working factors as to why that might be. However, one thing that can't be questioned is the club's ability to turn things up a notch when the postseason rolls around.
The Commanders might have secured Lattimore via trade, but, right now, the Chiefs remain the top team in the NFL. They didn't necessarily need a trade.
The Chiefs will have to make do with their current secondary, which has Joshua Williams serving in the cornerback role after Jaylen Watson suffered a season-ending injury.
