The Kansas City Chiefs head into the NFL Draft with several areas of need. While the three-time defending AFC champions might not have as many concerning flaws as most teams, this roster could use some upgrades, particularly on offense
Along with the offensive line, the franchise needs to add to its wide receiver core and running back room. Going into Thursday, the Chiefs have eight picks in the draft, including four between rounds 2 and 4. That is likely the area where general manager Brett Veach will add more weapons around quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
According to Jeremy Fowler, a senior NFL writer for ESPN, there is one running back in particular who is rising up draft boards that the Chiefs have shown interest in.
“Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson could also go earlier than most think,” Fowler reports. “Enough teams have him very high on their RB board, meaning late Round 1 isn't totally out of the question. Contenders such as the Texans, Chiefs, and Commanders are looking to improve their ground games. The Chiefs conducted a virtual call with Henderson on Tuesday, and coach Andy Reid was part of the call.”
Henderson is the kind of selfless, championship-caliber player who would be a very good fit on the Chiefs’ roster. The former 5-star recruit is a complete back who can run with power and speed, catch in the backfield, and is an elite blocker.
Depending on whether there are any elite offensive linemen at No. 31 in the draft, Henderson is the kind of safe pick in the late first round who could immediately provide a boost to the Chiefs’ backfield.
