Despite adding in veteran DeAndre Hopkins, the Kansas City Chiefs may not be done making trades before the NFL trade deadline. According to NFL insider DIannia Russini of The Athletic, Kansas City may try to land another wide receiver before all is said and done.
"But the Chiefs still might not be done. If a wide receiver falls into their laps, I'm told they are going to try to land another one with Skyy Moore on injured reserve."
Hopkins caught two passes for 29 yards in the Chiefs win over the Las Vegas Raiders last week. He should get more comfortable in the offensive system as he develops chemistry with his new teammates.
Kansas City has seen multiple injuries to key weapons on the offensive side of the football all season long. They've lost Marquise "Hollywood" Brown for the regular season, Rashee Rice remains out indefinitely with an injury, and Moore is on the injured reserve.
This has vastly limited the available playmakers for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes so Kansas City wants to bring more talent in. Despite all the injuries, Kansas City has found a way to remain as the only undefeated team in the league.
They are aiming to three-peat as Super Bowl champions but will likely need more talent to make that happen. The Chiefs are trying to put themselves into the best possible position to win again and that includes adding more wide receivers to the mix.
Russini also mentions that the Chiefs may be looking to add more talent on defense as well. Kansas City also brought in linebacker Josh Uche from the New England Patriots to bolster the defense.
"Also, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo would love for Veach to get him a young, fast corner. Kansas City is trying to land the final pieces on its mission to a three-peat."
The Chiefs are trying to solidify themselves as the cream of the crop this season and adding more talent is the way to do that. Kansas City has looked a little vulnerable this year despite staying alive for wins in every game.
The front office likely knows that as currently constructed, winning another Super Bowl could be tough, especially with all the injuries. But the Chiefs aren't content with staying stagnant and it's why they have seen so much success on the field over the years.
