Even though he hasn’t played an NBA for so long, Lonzo Ball remains a keen student of the game. Just recently, the Chicago Bulls guard named his top five defenders in the league today.
Over a year ago, the Bulls declared that Ball would sit out the rest of the 2022–23 season due to persistent discomfort during basketball-related engagements. He did not make any appearances that season and underwent a cartilage transplant in his left knee. Bulls vice president Arturas Karnisovas stated that they did not anticipate his availability for the 2023–24 season. In December, head coach Billy Donovan anticipated Ball’s return to running by January 2024. However, as of now, the point guard has yet to make a comeback to the league.
Even if that’s the case, Ball still voices out his opinions every now and then. The most recent was when he appeared on the The WAE Show and named his top five defenders in the NBA today. These include San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama , Minnesota Timberwolves’ Jaden McDaniels, Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Lu Dort, and Bulls guard Alex Caruso.
Judging from his choices, Ball listed two wings, two big men, and a guard as the NBA’s best defenders today. All of the guys he mentioned are positive contributors on that end of the court. Meanwhile, Wembanyama is the only one who can be identified as a potent force on the offensive end.
Chicago Bulls Guard Lonzo Ball Replaces Lu Dort With Jrue Holiday
At some point in the video, Ball was asked about Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and where he stands in the NBA from a defensive perspective. The Bulls guard quickly took Dort out and replaced him with Holiday in the list.

Holiday has been a revelation for the Celtics during the playoffs this year. After making several crucial plays before the NBA Finals , the former Milwaukee Bucks guard is now cooking Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in their series as his two-way game has been the key to Boston’s lead.
Without a doubt, Ball’s top guys when it comes to defense deserves all the credit they can get. Hopefully, the Bulls guard can come healthy next season to change the narrative of his career.
