Chicago Bears Reel In Rising Defensive Talent Nahshon Wright on a One-Year Deal—Will This Under-the-Radar Addition Reinforce Their Secondary?

The Chicago Bears continue to fill out their 90-man roster with intriguing prospects,  signing  cornerback Nahshon Wright. The former third-round pick spent the last four seasons with the Cowboys and Vikings.

Chicago Bears Sign Nahshon Wright to a One-Year Deal

Wright has primarily contributed on special teams during his time in the league, but his size and length provide defensive backs coach Al Harris and head coach Dennis Allen with something to work with.

Coming out of Oklahoma State, Wright was regarded as a high-upside, late-round prospect. However, it was surprising when the Cowboys selected him in the third round. This likely accelerated the development process, potentially explaining his lack of production. Over four seasons, Wright has accumulated 37 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception. He made contributions on special teams, credited with seven tackles and a blocked punt return touchdown. Durability is a concern, given that he missed most of the 2023 season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. In 2024, Wright spent the season on the Vikings' practice squad.

It will be interesting to see what new defensive backs coach Al Harris can extract from Wright. Time will tell if Wright even makes it past the first wave of cuts; for now, the Bears have added increased competition for training camp.
