‘Championship Vibes’: Mavs’ Klay Thompson Puts in Pre-Training Camp Work

Fresh off making a change of scenery by leaving the Golden State Warriors for the Dallas Mavericks, four-time champion and future Hall-of-Famer Klay Thompson is itching to get the ball rolling on his first season in Big D.

A prime example of Thompson's enthusiasm came on Sunday, as he was seen getting up shots on the NBPA's court. He also participated in a highly-competitive scrimmage that gave him "championship vibes."

"That game was high level," Thompson posted on Instagram. "Championship vibes!"

Thompson's relationship with the Warriors-mainly, the front office-deteriorated over the last few seasons. He would've loved to stay with the Warriors for the entirety of his career, but he felt disrespected by their contract negotiations, or lack thereof, which led to his departure.

Now, Thompson not only has a fresh start in a new city playing alongside Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and a stacked Mavs roster, but he also has added motivation to capture his fifth title before his former teammates, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

"(We have) very little adjustments from getting over the top," Thompson said of his Mavs' chances to win a title.

"Dirk (Nowitzki) went through (heartbreak) in his first Finals. Luka (Doncic) did, too. We are knocking on the door … That's what really got me excited to be here."

Thompson won't have long before he can knock down open 3s in front of rowdy Mavs fans at American Airlines Center. Training camp begins at the end of this month, with preseason play and the regular-season opener at home against the San Antonio Spurs happening soon after.
