CBS Announcer Shares His Thoughts on Texans vs. Titans

Joe Mixon needs just 7 more yards on Sunday to achieve his fifth career 1,000-yard rushing season. His performance this season reflects the ups and downs of the Texans’ overall season. There have been standout moments, such as his impressive Monday Night Football showing with three touchdowns against Dallas, as well as his season debut in Week 1, where he accrued 159 yards in a win against the Colts. However, alongside these highlights, he has also experienced some clunkers.

Do you recall the 25 touches in the loss to Detroit, which resulted in just 46 yards? Or the last meeting against the Tennessee Titans, where they only managed 22 yards on 14 carries? One thing is clear: if the Texans want to get back on track and make a playoff run, they will need Joe Mixon and his offensive line to be firing on all cylinders.

Just three years ago, Mixon led the Bengals to an upset victory at Arrowhead Stadium, achieving a total of 115 all-purpose yards in the game against the Chiefs, which secured their spot in the Super Bowl. The Texans often mirror Mixon's performance, just as the Bengals did.

Before the regular season finale at Nissan Stadium, I spoke with Tom McCarthy, who will be commentating for CBS, about what he is eager to see unfold this Sunday.

Craig: Accountability is a big thing with DeMeco Ryans. The Texans need to rebound after Christmas Day. Do you expect to see a rebound performance?

Tom: I’m most excited to see the continued growth of this young offense. As they prepare for the postseason, where they made their mark last year. I think some of this game vs. the Titans is important to rinse the remnants of two straight losses. This serves as a tune-up before next weekend. Establishing a rhythm for C.J. will greatly contribute to their success.

Craig: What other storylines are you looking forward to seeing?

Tom: I’m excited to see Joe Mixon get 1000 yards and the return of Azeez from suspension. Also, interested to see how Diontae Johnson plays a bit more. Injuries are part of every team, but the Texans receiving corp has been decimated.

With a victory, the Texans will claim their second consecutive 10 win season under DeMeco. The agonizing years under David Culley and Lovie Smith are in the rearview.
