Vancouver Canucks’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet says forward Filip Chytil is out with a concussion and won’t play in Sunday’s game against Utah Hockey Club.
According to Brendan Batchelor, the play-by-play voice for the Canucks on Sportsnet Radio, Tocchet says he felt okay today, but is in concussion protocol, and they will see how he is doing over the next 48 hours before deciding if he’ll go on their upcoming road trip.
Chytil suffered the injury during Vancouver’s Saturday game against the Chicago Blackhawks, when Chicago forward Jason Dickinson delivered a hit from behind on the Canucks’ forward. Chytil left the game and did not return.
In 15 games with the Canucks since being acquired from the New York Rangers in the J.T. Miller trade on Jan. 31, Chytil has two goals and four assists for six points. Before the trade, he produced 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 41 regular-season games with the Rangers.
Chytil, 25, has scored 77 goals and produced 93 assists for 170 points in 393 career regular-season games with the Rangers and Canucks. His most productive season came in 2022-23, when he scored 22 goals and added 23 assists for 45 points in 74 games.
Chytil has also played in 36 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, with eight goals and five assists for 13 points.
The Canucks are 31-24-11 with 73 points, fourth in the Pacific Division and holding on to the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
