Canucks’ Brock Boeser omitted from Top 20 wingers list by NHL Network

Brock Boeser is coming off a career-best 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season, but that wasn’t enough for the NHL Network to include him in their new list of the top 20 wingers in the league.

The 27-year-old Boeser ended up on the outside looking in on the likes of Jake Guentzel, Clayton Keller, Brad Marchand, Alex Ovechkin, and Travis Konecny, who respectively ranked 16th to 20th on the list.

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov took the top spot in the rankings, followed closely by Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk, Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen, and Boston’s David Pastrnak.

Five players from Canadian teams were included on the list: Toronto Maple Leafs forwards William Nylander and Mitch Marner (No. 8 and 10), Edmonton’s Zach Hyman (No. 11), Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk (No. 12), and Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor (No. 15).

Konency, who took the final spot on the NHL Network rankings, collected 33 goals and 68 points in 76 games with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2023-24 regular season. The 27-year-old forward recently signed an eight-year contract extension with the Flyers that will see him paid an average of $8.75 million per season through 2033.

Boeser’s existing deal with the Canucks is set to expire next summer, when he’ll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. The Burnsville, Minnesota product will be due a significant raise over his current $6.65 million cap hit — and he’ll likely sign for longer than three years this time.

The Canucks made Boeser their first-round pick (No. 23 overall) back in 2015, shortly after bowed out to the Calgary Flames in their final non-bubble playoff appearance until 2024. The former University of North Dakota standout made his NHL debut with the Canucks at the end of the 2016-17 season and cemented himself as an NHL regular the following year.

Through 479 career games over parts of eight seasons with the Canucks, Boeser has collected 179 goals and 384 points. The 6’1″, 208-pound right wing has added 11 goals and 23 points in 29 career playoff contests.
