Caleb Williams lost another game on Monday Night Football and the Bears quarterback is facing some uncompromising words.
Caleb Williams has finished his penultimate regular season game of the 2024 season. The Chicago Bears quarterback seemed like a larger-than-life prospect in line for an unconventionally dominant season in June. However, by the end of his Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings, all hopes for 2024 had been long ground into dust.
A viral video making the rounds on Tuesday shows Williams collapsed on the bench, doubling over to catch his breath in a game that he lost 30-12.
Of course, the Bears organization has taken the brunt of the criticism for how things have turned out this season. However, the quarterback himself is not innocent in the matter. At least, that is what one analyst appeared to suggest on Tuesday.
Emmanuel Acho on Williams
Speaking on a December 17 edition of “The Facility,” NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho delivered direct, harsh words to the rookie quarterback.
“Caleb Williams’ body language is starting to become not just concerning, but irritating.
“The game of football. Particularly when you’re a rookie. You go from being a king in college to being a peasant. And I believe somebody needs to inform Caleb. Tell him that you are now the peasant of the National Football League,” he said.
“It’s as if Caleb Williams expects us to feel sorry for him. Last night during the game, Yes, he took a hard hit. We’ve all taken hard hits before.
“Why are you sitting there laying on the bench like somebody’s going to come pick you up. Nobody’s coming to rescue you. Caleb Williams. … You are not a damsel and you are not in distress. You are an NFL quarterback,” he added sternly.
In the loss to the Vikings, Williams threw for one touchdown, zero interceptions, 191 yards, and completed 58.1% of his passes.
Caleb Williams continues interception-free streak dating back to October
While it hasn’t gone the way fans hoped it would this season, one key statistic should give some solace. The Bears rookie hasn’t thrown an interception since October 13. According to Pro Football Reference, the quarterback hasn’t been the most accurate passer, regularly dipping under a 60% completion rate.
However, he has been smart in his decision-making, avoiding the disastrous turnover problem that so many rookie quarterbacks run into. Of course, it has been far from perfect, but the Bears didn’t have a single season with Jay Cutler, Mitchell Trubisky, or Justin Fields with a quarterback with a 3:1 throwing touchdown-interception ratio. They currently have one with Williams.
