Buffalo Bills Star running back James Cook reported to training camp at St. John Fisher University amid contract negotiations with the team.
Cook had a dominant 2024 season, where he put up 1,022 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. As he enters the final year of his $5.3 million rookie contract, the former Georgia product seeks an extension that would pay him top dollar.
In terms of 2025 cap hit, Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts is set to earn the most money at $15.3 million, with Green Bay Packer Josh Jacobs ranking second at $11.3 million. Considering these numbers, along with Barkley’s recent extension that pays him about $20 million annually, Cook should be somewhere in the middle.
The 25-year-old is coming off back-to-back Pro-Bowl selections and has cemented himself as one of the NFL’s best. On the field, he combines explosive speed and elusiveness to fine running lanes, while trusting his excellent vision.
Cook’s versatility is shown in the passing game with 124 career receptions across his first three seasons, making him a dual-threat option.
After practice today, Cook took questions from the media and shared how he’s approaching the negotiation table, along with why he wants to remain in Buffalo.
"I'm never gonna give up. I deserve what I want. It’s gonna get done, wherever it happens at,” Cook said.
“The quarterback. And the fans. It’s a great organization.”
Cook was responsible for a major portion of Buffalo’s success last season, and he believes he should be paid like it. When you combine his age with his on-field production, many would argue it should be an easy decision for the Bills’ front office.
As the organization aims for a Super Bowl, it has an extremely impactful choice to make over the next nine months.
