Ian Rapoport was asked about the ongoing situation and where things stand between the Bills and Cook on an appearance of The Pat McAfee Show.
"It's not great. I would not describe it as great right now. I mean, he's gonna, you know, he'll play for the bills next year. The house for sale is sort of something that always catches my eye," Rapoport answered. "First of all, it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but players know it gets reported. So when you do that, if you're gonna do that, it's a pretty big statement that's as big as taking your team out of your social media."
"I'm not sure him coming out and saying that he wanted to make $15 million [per year] was really the most welcome thing in the organization," he added.
Rapoport continued to say that the Bills want to have him back. Cook is a young and dynamic playmaker, to be sure, but the Bills are also preparing for arguably the most loaded running back draft class this century. Armed with two picks in the second round, the possibility certainly exists that Buffalo decides to add a running back to their room, electing to move on from Cook after his rookie season plays out. The possibility of trading Cook also exists.
Cook is an incredible talent, but it feels like his price point will have to come down quite a bit in order for the Bills to get close. Beane moving on to handle five other contract extensions after Cook voiced his wants speaks very loudly.
