Buddy Hield Off Bench? For Warriors, That Seemingly Makes Most Sense

Buddy Hield has done well coming off the bench throughout his NBA career, and it’s a role the man may take with him to the Warriors.

NBA News: Buddy Hield Off Bench? For Warriors, That Seemingly Makes Most Sense

Hield? As sixth man? Yet again, it sounds like that may be the case — with Golden State perhaps opting to start De’Anthony Melton next to Stephen Curry in the backcourt. Like Hield, Melton was acquired from the 76ers.

And for Golden State coach Steve Kerr, it really would be a strategic move — with Kerr expressing a desire to have Hield’s outside shooting on the court when Curry is taking a rest.

“Buddy brings us that spark,” Kerr said, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. “When you have a guy who can score in bunches like that, it’s a luxury. He can give us that instant offense.”

Without a doubt, Hield remains one of the best perimeter shooters in the NBA. So it would only make sense to bring in Hield and his ability to knock down shots and keep defenses honest when Curry sits.

Meanwhile, Melton fits what Kerr likes in a starter — someone who can defend, play off the ball, and let Curry do his thing. Melton’s defensive chops and ability to hit threes will be key for the Warriors at both ends.

So while Hield may not be starting, his role will be undoubtedly critical. Being the sixth man isn’t just about minutes — it’s about impact. Hield coming in when Curry rests could prove to be a move that keeps the Warriors’ offense running like a well-oiled machine.
