As the Cleveland Browns look to figure things out during the remainder of the offseason and training camp, there will be some tough questions for them to answer. Some believe the Browns could go with Shedeur Sanders, while others believe the Browns will give the keys to the starting position to one of the older players on the roster. That makes more sense, given Sanders is a bit younger, but it remains uncertain what the Browns want to do.
Despite some uncertainties, FanSided recently predicted a tough outlook for the youngster, predicting that Kenny Pickett would win the starting job. Some have suggested that Pickett could be the starter, given he’s young but still has some experience, based on his time in the league.
“Who will the Cleveland Browns have under center for their regular-season home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals? That’s a fully loaded query that no one has the answer to right now. But if we were to place a bet on the outcome, Kenny Pickett is like the most logical choice…
“Say what you want about Pickett’s arm strength (or lack thereof) and intent on being conservative, but he won games with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He may have left much to be desired in the box score, but was productive in the stat that matters most: Win-loss record. The 27-year-old went 14-10 across 24 starts in 2022 and 2023 before getting traded to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last March,” they wrote.
Does Pickett Have a Shot at the Starting Job?
After some of the comments from Cleveland Browns higher-ups, including Andrew Berry, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Pickett win the starting job.
When Berry spoke about him in March, he noted that there’s a path for him to continue to improve and take a step forward. That’s somewhat telling considering many have questioned what the Browns’ plans are at the position.
“[We] feel like he’s a good decision-maker, he does a really good job of protecting the ball. He’s very mobile, and we think that his relative strengths are something that fit well with the offense that we’re putting into place for this upcoming year,” Berry said, per ESPN. “We do think that there’s a pretty credible path for him to continue to improve and take a step forward, and I think you’ve seen that with players that they get into maybe new or sometimes maybe better environments for their particular path in their career.”
Would the Browns Cut Ties With Sanders Already?
If the Cleveland Browns don’t want to start Sanders and don’t believe there’s a path for him to ever start in the NFL, moving on from him sooner rather than later has some sense in it.
There will likely be a few teams looking for a quarterback throughout the year, but it remains uncertain where exactly Sanders would fit.
Recently, however, Jonathan Adams of BetUs proposed the idea of the Indianapolis Colts trading for him. The Colts, similar to the Browns, have many question marks at the position.
“Every NFL team passed on Shedeur Sanders on multiple occasions, so the idea that these same franchises would be interested in trading for the rookie is a bit laughable,” he wrote.
“That said, does anyone have confidence that either Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones is the solution at quarterback for the Colts?”
