Browns-Seahawks trade proposal lands $56M guard upgrade for Seattle

After finishing their 2024 campaign, the first under new head coach Mike Macdonald, with a 10-7 record and in second place in the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks made some changes this offseason.

Those changes included replacing offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb with Klint Kubiak and shipping out wide receiver DK Metcalf and quarterback Geno Smith in trades with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively.

While the team will definitely be different in 2025, one area that Seattle hasn't addressed enough this offseason is their offensive line. Over the last month or so, they've watched Laken Tomlinson sign with the Houston Texans and Stone Forsythe land with the New York Giants. They did add Josh Jones from the Baltimore Ravens, but considering the Seahawks allowed their quarterbacks to be sacked on 8.35% of dropbacks in 2024 (ninth-most), they need to do more.

Interestingly, Pro Football and Sports Network's Sterling Xie identified Seattle as a potential landing spot for veteran guard Wyatt Teller in a trade this offseason.

Teller, 30, played collegiately at Virginia Tech from 2013-17, earning First-team All-ACC honors in his final season with the Hokies.

The Buffalo Bills selected Teller in the fifth round (No. 166 overall) of the 2018 NFL draft, and after starting the year as a backup, he took over as the starting left guard in the middle of the year.

Ahead of his second professional season, Buffalo sent Teller (and a seventh-round pick) to the Cleveland Browns for a pair of Day 3 selections in the 2020 NFL draft.

Teller again started his tenure with his new team as a backup but earned his way to a starting role. In total, Teller has appeared in 96 games and started in 88 over seven years between Buffalo and Cleveland, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro nominations.

Pro Football Focus gave Teller a 62.6 overall for his performance in 2024, ranking him 63rd out of 136 guards last season. He also earned a 63.1 pass-blocking grade (65th) and a 61.6 run-blocking grade (70th).

Cleveland is in a horrendous cap situation and could be looking to part with some veterans to clear space. Trading Teller after June 1 could save them $7 million, and they'd probably be able to get a Day 3 pick in return, while Seattle would get a starting guard to protect new quarterback Sam Darnold.
