Browns-Packers Trade Pitch Moves 8-Touchdown WR to Cleveland

Regardless of who the Cleveland Browns‘ quarterback is entering the season, the team could use another wide receiver. The Browns’ wide receiver room might be one of the worst in the NFL, something they simply have to fix if they want to be an above-average team, or even average.

When searching for ways the Browns could improve, Newsweek recently proposed the idea of them trading for Romeo Doubs of the Green Bay Packers. Some believe that with the Packers’ crowded wide receiver room, he could be dealt, and Doubs makes perfect sense to be traded, considering some past indications.

If the Browns could land him, there are also reasons to believe he could be their WR1 due to the current roster.

“It’s clear that the Packers have an extremely talented wide receiver room for franchise quarterback Jordan Love. Unfortunately, they might have too much talent. Along with Doubs, Green Bay has Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams on the roster. Mecole Hardman is also with the Packers in training camp.

“Moving on from one wide receiver seems likely. Doubs could be the odd man out. In a contract year, Green Bay could choose to ship him off to a wide receiver-needy team for draft capital. Potential Trade Destinations: 49ers, Bills, Browns, Giants, Steelers,” Evan Massey wrote.

Could Packers Flip Wide Receiver for Draft Capital?

Some have suggested in the past that the Green Bay Packers could look to move on from him. On the flip side, others believe it’s the right decision to do so, including FanSided’s Nick Halden, who noted that the Packers will place him on the trade block in August. It’s possible that he could bring a big enough return to help Green Bay moving forward.

Unlike the Browns, the Packers are in a position to win a Super Bowl. If they believe that moving on from Doubs could get them a decent trade asset in return, perhaps a pick or two, from a team like the Browns, it might be wise to move on from him.

“Doubs carries enough trade value to garner a noteworthy return that makes your roster better. In a division with the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, the Packers can’t afford not to do everything in their power to attempt to close the gap. While Green Bay’s 2024 season was solid, the team could only watch as the top two teams in the division competed for the best record in the conference. Making it clear that the 2024 version of the roster simply wasn’t good enough,” he wrote.

Will Green Bay Keep All Their Young Receivers?

The Green Bay Packers are often one of the toughest teams in the NFL to figure out regarding rumors.

However, despite the rumors about Doubs earlier in the year, Matt LaFleur stated that he was taking a new leadership role and started talking to rookie Matthew Golden, trying to help him.

This is a step in the right direction for Doubs and the Packers, especially after a season in which he posted 601 yards on 46 receptions. He averaged 13.1 yards per reception, and if he can increase those receptions, there’s a good chance he could be a 1,000-plus yard receiver for Green Bay.

“We were out there earlier today and I went over to tell Matthew (Golden) something about one of his routes,” LaFleur told Kay Adams. “I was just about to start talking and then Romeo Doubs grabbed him and started talking to him,”

The Cleveland Browns need somebody like that, even if it means they deal with some of the drama Doubs has given the Packers organization in the past.
