Bronwyn Newport has been faced with a family health crisis.
In a series of posts shared to her Instagram Story this week, the 39-year-old Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star revealed that her mother underwent “major surgery” after the discovering of a brain tumor as she also slammed those who have spoken ill about her handling of her parents’ situation.
“I hope everyone that celebrates had a very merry Christmas!” Bronwyn began in one of many posts on December 26. “A month ago my dad (who has Alzheimer’s) fell and broke his pelvis. It put an incredible strain on my mom, who has, for almost ten years insisted on being his sole caretaker.”
According to Bronwyn, her mother recently began to struggle with that role.
“We noticed more and more that she was struggling to manage what is his normal care required plus the injury. We kept getting her more and more help, live in caregivers and one of my sisters and I made visits and forced our help on her too. However, she kept getting more exhausted and frail,” Bronwyn shared.
After her mother fell “a few” times, Bronwyn recalled a similar situation decades ago.
“My mom had similar dizzy, confused and exhausted symptoms almost 30 years ago when she had a brain tumor. I was on my way to California with that worry when she really had a frail day and a friend took her to the hospital. I went straight there from the airport and we received the bad news I was both expecting and not. I don’t remember everything from when my mom was so sick when I was little but something also felt oddly familiar,” she recalled. “My mom again has a tumor in the back of her skull, in an almost identical location to the one she had Thanksgiving week almost 30 years ago.”
In a second post, Bronwyn confirmed that her mother was headed into surgery.
“She’s going into major surgery today and we are so hopeful after a long recovery she’ll be her usual, feisty and amazing self,” she wrote.
As her mother was in surgery, Bronwyn shared another message with her fans and followers, admitting that she was “so scared and worried.”
“But my mom has helped so many over the years. And refused help for herself always. It is an honor to get to be the one who is here,” she noted.
She then revealed why she was feeling “a bit of rage.”
“The whispers of gossip about my family, and how we have handled trying to allow my mom her independence and letting her come to terms with needing and accepting help have gotten back to me,” she revealed. “Those who felt my choice to be on Bravo and or posting contractually obligated and pre-filmed things online while I was at the same time trying to quietly help my parents and not yet share about this all…. and then talked behind my back or worse online about me is despicable. Especially those of you who have benefitted from my mother’s kindness to you or your families over the years.”
“As disrespectfully as possible, I won’t forget this. I am focusing though, on how grateful I am for the many that were truly so kind to my mom and helpful as I was in and out,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season five airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
