There have been rumors circulating throughout the past few weeks that the Dallas Cowboys could be interested in trading for Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
The Broncos have reportedly not made him available, but with his contract situation still unresolved, there could be a scenario where things get complicated over the next few months.
If the Broncos can't work out a deal with their star wide receiver, the Cowboys would make perfect sense for him.
In a recent trade idea from Brian Martin of Blogging the Boys after the NFL draft, he pitched the idea of the Cowboys trading for Sutton, adding that the team might have replaced him in the draft with Illinois wide receiver Pat Bryant in the third round.

“Courtland Sutton is entering the final year of his contract in 2025 and as of yet hasn't made much progress with the Broncos for an extension. Also, the Broncos just drafted Illinois WR Pat Bryant in the third-round over the weekend. The 6'3", 200-pound rookie WR could be viewed as Sutton's replacement, further feeding the rumor mill he could be traded. Sutton, a Texas native, would be a great fit on the outside in Dallas if they acquired him via trade,” Martin wrote.
Expecting Bryant to be anything like Sutton would be a disaster from the Broncos' perspective.
Fortunately, it doesn't seem like the team is asking him to be anything like the 29-year-old veteran.
Depending on what a team is willing to give up, trading Sutton could make sense if they aren't going to pay him and he'll walk in free agency.
However, the Broncos seem to be a playoff team next season, and keeping the SMU product seems to make the most sense for now after posting 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
