Broncos Trade Idea Brings $84 Million Speedster Playmaker to Denver

The Denver Broncos have a young, talented quarterback who could lead one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL—if they add a star wide receiver. While Courtland Sutton returns, he’s aging and would thrive most as a second option. Given the Broncos' limited receiving options, a boost in the receiving corps is essential.

Broncos Trade Idea Brings $84 Million Speedster Playmaker to Denver

Under head coach Sean Payton, known for his focus on offensive playmakers, it’s almost certain the Broncos will bring in at least one more weapon before training camp begins. Rumors are swirling that Denver is targeting a receiver in the draft, but they could just as easily pursue a proven veteran if they want an immediate impact.

One player who could be a perfect fit in Denver is Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins. Despite dealing with injuries and a tough season where he failed to be a consistent threat, Waddle has immense potential. With the Dolphins looking to make a big splash and become true Super Bowl contenders, moving Waddle could be the necessary change.

If Miami is willing to shake things up to preserve its championship window, Waddle’s struggles last season might make him the odd man out. This trade could allow the Broncos to secure a young, fast receiver to pair with their quarterback for the future, while helping the Dolphins bolster their roster for a title push.

The trade would involve Jaylen Waddle and the 135th pick going to the Broncos in exchange for Zach Allen, PJ Locke, the 122nd pick, and the 191st pick. The Dolphins would gain a solid defensive lineman—addressing one of their biggest needs—along with safety depth, a fourth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick. This deal would strengthen their defense and give them more draft capital to add talent.

Allen would be an immediate starter and a significant upgrade to the Dolphins' defensive line, providing one less position they need to address in the draft. Locke would also be a solid addition. While he may not be a starting-caliber safety, he’s an excellent rotational piece who can make plays when called upon. The Dolphins lack experience and safety depth, making Locke the perfect fit to rotate in and help stabilize the unit.

While the Dolphins are projected to draft at least one safety, they will likely focus on one that is ready to start immediately. Regardless of how many safeties they draft, rookie struggles are inevitable, and Locke’s veteran presence would provide valuable support. The Dolphins would also acquire two picks, allowing them to strengthen their defense and offensive line, or perhaps even draft a receiver to replace Waddle eventually.

Denver would gain a new No. 1 receiver and a fourth-round pick. Waddle posted 58 catches for 744 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games, marking career lows across the board. Despite some injuries and inconsistent quarterback play, Waddle struggled even when the team was healthy.

However, given Waddle’s past productivity, with 1,000-yard seasons in every other year of his career, he’s likely to rebound next season. A change of scenery could even ignite his best season yet. Waddle could thrive in Sean Payton’s offense alongside Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton.

The Broncos would also receive a draft pick, with which they could select a safety to develop or find defensive line depth to help replace Allen. R.J. Mickens (Clemson), Malachi Moore (Alabama), and Sebastian Castro (Iowa) are all talented safeties expected to go in the mid-to-late rounds.

On the defensive line, Josaiah Stewart (Michigan), Jack Sawyer (Ohio State), and Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss) are mid-round defensive ends who could be major steals.

Bringing in one of the NFL’s fastest receivers while taking a chance on one of these players is a reasonable price to pay for Zach Allen.

This trade would address the immediate needs of both teams as they prepare for next season. The Broncos should make an offer for Waddle come draft time, potentially pulling off a surprising deal that no one saw coming.
