Broncos head into first offseason with a quarterback since Peyton Manning

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Not to sound like a broken record, but the Denver Broncos finally have their quarterback.

It only took nearly 10 years and some 15 attempts, but better late than never. And now Sean Payton, George Paton, and the Broncos can target an offseason without the need to find a quarterback for the first time since Peyton Manning.

And that is freaking awesome for this franchise and the fans.

It opens up so many possibilities for how Denver targets the offseason. Payton already mentioned in an interview over Super Bowl week insight into the Broncos' offseason wish list. Payton mentioned to Kay Adams Denver’s “musts, needs, and wants.” But the only reason this is possible is because of Nix.

Not to mention the Broncos are doing this coming off their first winning season and playoff appearance in almost a decade. If you’re feeling positive and enthused right now, you should. This has been a long time coming, and the path back to relevancy and contention is here. There is still a lot of work to be done for Denver to compete for and play in a Super Bowl, as evidenced by the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. But this is the first time since Manning that it’s not fools’ gold or a pipe dream to think it’s actually possible for the Broncos to make a deep playoff run.

It will be fun to watch how Payton, Paton, and Denver target the offseason, especially when the NFL announces the final salary cap space of between $277.5 million and $281.5 million. Based on projections by Over The Cap, that would put the Broncos at $41.7 million since only the top 51 contracts count toward the cap in the offseason.

It’s also fun to know that this franchise is free of the quarterback albatross that has held it down for so long and can finally make moves to take further steps down the championship path.
