The Denver Broncos continue to take a hard look around the free agency market. Even after some notable additions earlier in the offseason, along with an active 2025 NFL Draft, Sean Payton's team isn't settling.
More veteran talent is available, and they could add another running back option sooner than later. A recent report around a former rival RB points to a potential landing in Denver.
Broncos visit with former Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins
According to Tom Pelissero, the Broncos met with veteran running back J.K. Dobbins on Wednesday evening. He'll visit the team's facility on Thursday. That could include a workout for the Broncos.
Dobbins was a consistent force for the Los Angeles Chargers offense a season ago. When healthy, he was capable on third downs and in the red zone for the AFC West foe.
Dobbins confirmed the visit via his social media as well.
I talked about Dobbins' potential fit for Sean Payton's team in Denver with A to Z Sports contributor Justin Churchill.
The Denver Broncos do still need some help in their RB room. The truth is, none of their current RBs on their roster who are projected to play a ton, have hardly any experience. Their projected starter is a rookie and their projected backup is a second-year player. And, get this, none of these running backs worked out last year, with R.J. Harvey being a rookie. So, why would they not try and switch it up a bit?
The current group of RBs are all good at something. But, the honest truth is that none of them are really third-down backs. Adding a guy like Dobbins, who has played some pretty important football the last few years, would be huge, especially for a team still learning how to win. Yes he has injury issues, but it's not like he's going to be the starter or even a guy that gets a large chunk of the carries. -- Justin Churchill
I agree with plenty of what Churchill detailed. There is limited pro experience in the backfield for the Broncos. R.J. Harvey is a player the plenty of folks are excited about, and deservedly so.
That being said, a strong veteran presence who can be a safety net at times for young QB Bo Nix would be a smart addition to the roster. Not to mention, the addition of Dobbins would prevent his return to Los Angeles.
