The Minnesota Vikings came away with a win in Week 1 over the New York Giants.
This wasn’t exactly an upset, but it was surprising to see the Vikings win in blowout fashion.
Besides the Vikings coming into the season with questions about their offensive line, the biggest roadblock was the quarterback position.
J.J. McCarthy wasn’t able to make a case for himself due to his injury, leaving Darnold as the obvious choice for their Week 1 starter.
Darnold helped lead that charge against the Giants, a big reason for the blowout victory.
This didn’t come as a surprise to former teammate Brock Purdy, who had nothing but good things to say about Darnold.
“Sam’s the man… Sam’s so talented,” Purday said in his press conference.
These comments come ahead of the clash between the Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.
The 49ers have the better team on paper, but there’s a reason they play the games.
Purdy is convinced that Darnold is a great athlete who can make a difference in the league and is excited to see what his former teammate is capable of.
Darnold hasn’t had a great opportunity to prove his worth to this point in his career, given the number of poor coaches and offensive schemes he has been a part of.
The Vikings are a new, exciting, palatable team, and so far, the plays they have drawn have worked wonders for Darnold’s development.
