Earlier during New York Giants training camp, second-year safety Tyler Nubin made it clear he was all in on Paulson Adebo. He called the $54 million signing a smart move and pointed to Adebo’s professionalism as something younger players should be paying attention to. Through two practices, it looks like he might be right.

But while Nubin was busy hyping up his new teammate, it was head coach Brian Daboll who took a minute to throw the spotlight back on Nubin. He praised his voice in the room, his communication on the field, and summed it up by calling himself a “big Nubin fan.”
This was Dabs' full quote on the up-and-comer:
"Nubin is a pro," Daboll said. "I think he's a very young player. He's got tremendous leadership skills. He's very, very smart. He's vocal, not just on the field but in the team meeting… The safeties are kind of the quarterbacks of the defense, particularly in the back end to make sure everything is aligned and good to go. Nubin is not just a good player, he's is a good person, he's a good leader. He's got a lot of good traits. I'm a big Nubin fan."
The 24-year-old was enjoying a strong rookie season before a Week 14 high-ankle sprain required surgery and took him out for the rest of the season. Daboll doesn’t hand out praise unless it’s earned. If he’s this high on Nubin, it probably means something. Expect the young safety to have a huge impact on the new and improved 2025 Giants.
Tyler Nubin continues to impress the Giants coaching staff
New York selected Nubin out of Minnesota with the 47th pick of the 2024 draft. After losing Xavier McKinney earlier in free agency, the secondary needed someone in the back end to help improve a pass defense that lacked confidence and consistency.
Nubin provided that help almost immediately. He won the starting job in the offseason and showcased impact potential week in and week out for the 13 weeks he started. On a team that fell apart by Thanksgiving, Nubin was one of the few things worth paying attention to.
He isn’t without his faults. He’ll need to get better in coverage if he’s going to be the game-changer he could be. But it’s rare for rookies to come in with no areas for improvement. His run defense and tackling are his calling cards, and Giants fans should expect more tone-setting from him in Year 2. Don’t get it twisted — he’s aware he’ll need to work on his coverage skills, and it’s safe to say the organization expects he’ll do exactly that.
While Giants training camp will center mostly around the quarterbacks, and the Deonte Banks-Cor'Dale Flott cornerback and offensive line battles, don't lose sight of one of the young stars emerging for this defense.
Nubin already has Daboll's attention, the locker room's respect, and if he's able to put together a strong camp, don't be surprised if the defense improves drastically in 2025 with a breakout star.
