Before the San Francisco 49ers loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the team put star running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve, meaning he will not be eligible until Week 6. On Monday, the 49ers announced they will be without another star offensive weapon for multiple weeks.
The San Francisco 49ers were already missing Christian McCaffrey
The 49ers were able to defeat the New York Jets in Week 1 without McCaffrey. Backup running back Jordan Mason had an incredible Monday night game in Week 1. Mason had a solid outing in Week 2, running 20 times for 100 yards in the 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the Vikings.
The 49ers leading receiver in the game, Deebo Samuel, suffered an injury against the Vikings.
Deebo Samuel is out for the next few weeks
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel will miss the next few weeks due to a calf strain.
Samuel caught eight passes for 110 yards against the Vikings.
Samuel’s injury throws another wrench in the scheme of the 49ers offense. The 49ers are without receiver Ricky Pearsall, as the rookie recovers from being shot in the chest a few weeks ago.
Brandon Aiyuk must play better
The 49ers will need Brandon AIyuk to step up and prove his worth the new contract extension the 49ers gave him before the start of the season. The time Aiyuk missed in training camp appears to be affecting his play on the field.
Aiyuk has six receptions for 71 yards and no touchdowns through the first two weeks.
