The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding a former starter for the Baltimore Ravens as they continue to add depth for the secondary. The Steelers cut defensive backs Keanu Neal and Patrick Peterson before the start of free agency so they could conserve cap space.

The Steelers added Donte Jackson for the secondary when they traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in March. However, the team is still trying to improve the unit before the start of the upcoming season.
Anthony Averett is signing with the Steelers
According to Pro Football Talk, The Steelers signed defensive back Anthony Averett on Sunday:
Cornerback Anthony Averett spent the weekend taking part in the Steelers’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and he will be sticking around a while longer.
Agent Chad Wiestling told PFT that the Steelers have signed Averett to a one-year deal after watching him work out with the team.
Averett spent time with the 49ers and Lions last season, but did not see any action in the regular season.
The Baltimore Ravens selected Averett in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played with the Ravens through the 2021 season. At 29, he’s started in 27 games and has appeared in 51 games during his NFL career. He’s recorded 114 total tackles, 23 passes defensed, and three interceptions.
