The Green Bay Packers announced they are releasing a kicker ahead of training camp. The move came after the Packers had three kickers competing during OTAs this spring. The Packers weren’t satisfied with Anders Carlson’s rookie season.
The Green Bay Packers wanted more competition at kicker
As previously discussed on WSH, the Packers didn’t seem content with what they saw at OTAs. The Packers showed interest in Jake Bates before he chose to sign with the Detroit Lions:
The Packers have an important position battle going on at kicker. Anders Carlson struggled in his rookie season with the Packers. This offseason, the Packers brought in former Minnesota Vikings kicker Greg Joseph and undrafted free agent Jack Podlesny to challenge Carlson for a roster spot.
The Packers didn’t appear satisfied with those three when a report surfaced that they requested to visit with UFL star Jake Bates.
The Packers released Jack Podlesny
Per a statement by the Packers, the team released Podlesny on Wednesday. The Packers have an open roster spot after releasing Podlesny. The Packers could add another kicker before training camp to compete with Joseph and Carlson.
