Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are heading into the 2024 NFL season as a potential Super Bowl contender.
After an impressive run in 2023 that saw them sneak into the playoffs and blow out the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round, expectations have risen dramatically. The young team is expected to take another step forward.
While the team is expected to have big success, Love could also be headed towards massive personal success.
Throughout the course of the NFL offseason, Love’s name and potential contract extension has been one of the most talked about storylines. He seems likely to end up getting his new deal at some point before the regular season arrives.
As noted by Packers Talk, Love’s new deal will come on the heels of Jacksonville Jaguars star quarterback Trevor Lawrence getting a massive new deal that made him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. Love’s deal could be even bigger.
The Green Bay Packers have waited to get a new deal done with Love. Brian Gutekunst and the front office have been discussing it with the young quarterback and expect something to get done.
However, they have not gotten it locked in and the price tag continues to rise as other quarterbacks around the NFL get new deals.
Love’s value right now is much higher than Lawrence. He is viewed as the better player by many. While the sample size is not very big for Love, he looked like one of the top-five quarterbacks in the league during the second half of the 2023 season.
More than likely, the Packers are going to have to back up the brinks truck to lock up their new franchise quarterback long-term. Hopefully, he will continue developing and performing at the level that he showed late last year.
It’s a gamble to give such a big contract to a player who has only started for one season. But, if Green Bay waits for next offseason, the price tag will likely rise even more.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see where Love and the Green Bay Packers land from a money perspective. A new deal seems likely to get done soon, so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
