On Sunday afternoon, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love announced he had made a life-changing decision this offseason. Love headed into the NFL’s dead period with much to gain before the 2024 season starts in September.
The Green Bay Packers need to pay Jordan Love soon
Love wants a contract extension with the Packers before September. As previously discussed on GH, earlier this offseason it was believed Love would earn nearly $50 million per year via his next deal. Love didn’t want to talk about his contract much at OTAs this spring, but he wouldn’t rule out holding out this season if he didn’t sign a contract extension:
Love was peppered with questions about his contract situation during his media appearance at the Packers OTAs on Tuesday. Love said he didn’t want to talk much about his contract. Love wouldn’t commit to playing in the upcoming season when a reporter asked if he’d play for the Packers this fall if a new extension weren’t signed.
“We’ll see. I don’t know yet. We’ll see,” Love said.
Love being at voluntary OTAs this month is a good sign that he’ll play this season. However, things might change if his agent sees little progress with the Packers front office before mandatory OTAs or training camp starts.
A nearly $38 million difference is on the line for Love if he doesn’t sign a new extension. That’s a lot of money to risk for a violent sport where many of his quarterback colleagues suffered significant injuries last season.
Trevor Lawrence’s recent contract extension changes the discussion around Love. Lawrence is set to make $55 million per year. Love could ask for a similar salary after nearly taking the Packers to the NFC Championship Game in January
Love is set to sign one contract after Sunday, but it’s unclear when he’ll do so
Love took care of a personal matter
Love and the Packers are expected to be in the running for a Super Bowl appearance next February. The next few months are critical for the Packers and Love. Despite all of the NFL’s pressure ramping up on Love, the quarterback is taking time during the league’s dead period (between OTAs and training camp) to take care of personal business.
Per Love’s Instagram account, Love announced he is now engaged to Ronika Stone.
“First step to forever,” Love wrote.
Packers fans’ initial reaction to the engagement
Packers and NFL fans are excited for Love. He checked off another important duty on his offseason checklist. Here are the best takes of fans congratulating Love.
