BREAKING: Packers' first notable cut of training camp is already painfully obvious

It's a good problem to have, but it leaves the Green Bay Packers with a brutal decision.

The Packers have too many talented wide receivers, and only a handful will make the 53-man roster later this summer. First-round pick Matthew Golden has shown star potential, and new additions Savion Williams and Mecole Hardman keep making plays.

Dontayvion Wicks continues to follow the Davante Adams career arc in the best way possible, while Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs look ready to roll. Unfortunately, it likely means the end for fan favorite Malik Heath, who could miss out on a roster spot simply due to the Packers' incredible depth.

Malik Heath now seems destined to be cut by the Packers

Everyone loves Heath, and it's not like he's playing poorly at camp. Quite the opposite.

The former undrafted free agent is one of the Packers' best success stories in recent years, becoming a regular contributor in the passing game against all odds. He has stepped up with several big-time plays at training camp, but it's simply a numbers game.

Green Bay will struggle to find room for more than six wide receivers on the roster. Five spots already belong to Reed, Doubs, Wicks, Golden, and Williams. At most, that leaves one opening.

Hardman, a free-agent addition in the offseason, is playing far too well not to make the roster as things stand. All signs point to him securing a spot, including updates like this one:

"Hardman cooked cornerback Kalen King on a comeback route for his first catch and found enough space against Bullard near the left sideline for another slick grab," writes Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

Add in Hardman's return ability, and he is the clear frontrunner to win the WR6 job, at worst.

Green Bay's receivers are stepping up, and that includes names fans may be less familiar with, like Cornelius Johnson and Sam Brown Jr. Heath is also making plays, and his experience in Matt LaFleur's offense helps his chances. However, his departure feels inevitable at this point.

Heath can play. He has 25 career receptions, three touchdowns, and is a more-than-willing blocker. He can help an NFL offense. But barring a run of injuries, the veteran likely won't get many opportunities in the Packers' passing attack this season.

Beyond the receivers, Green Bay has tight end Tucker Kraft, who last season received 70 targets from Jordan Love. That number will only increase.

Heath can undoubtedly help another team, but his time in Green Bay may be coming to an end.
