BREAKING: Packers Could Consider Cutting Massive Fan Favorite Before 2024 Season

The Green Bay Packers put together a solid all-around offseason that put them in a great position to contend during the 2024 NFL season. Brian Gutekunst added two key players in NFL free agency, signing both safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs. Following those moves, the Packers had yet another great NFL Draft.

Looking ahead to the regular season, the Packers will have some tough decisions to make. Between now and then, they will have to figure out which players to cut and which players to keep.

One NFL writer suggested that the Green Bay Packers could consider cutting a massive fan favorite prior to the start of the 2024 season.

Sayre Bedinger of Dairyland Express stated that A.J. Dillon is “on the chopping block” this offseason. With the addition of rookie third-round running back MarShawn Lloyd, he thinks that Green Bay might move on from Dillon.Ezoic

“The Packers brought in Lloyd with the 88th overall pick and the former USC star is expected to get a lot of run right away, which is what we heard in a post-draft press conference from offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich. Dillon is on the chopping block until further notice.”

After re-signing Dillon in free agency, the Packers cutting him would be a surprise. Matt LaFleur is a huge fan of what Dillon brings to the field.

It seems much more likely that the Green Bay Packers would figure out a way to switch up Dillon’s role. While he has been the team’s backup running back and has received a ton of touches over the last few years, that could change. He could become more of a fullback, like the role that Josiah Deguara had in recent seasons.

However, the Packers will have to figure out if they think Dillon is cut out for that role. It does seem likely that Lloyd will end up taking over as the primary backup running back.

Should the coaching staff not figure out another way to use Dillon, they could cut him. It would be a sad day, as fans have come to love “Quadzilla” throughout his tenure with the Green Bay Packers. But, the NFL is a business and this would be yet another move that proves that fact.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about what the Packers might do when it comes to roster cut time. They will have some tough decisions to make and A.J. Dillon could be among those decisions.
