The New York Jets have a vital 2024 season coming up. Part of the reason why it is vital is because there is a high amount of anticipation to see the return of veteran QB Aaron Rodgers. Last year, he played just four snaps before being sidelined due to a torn Achilles injury.
However, Rodgers made headlines when he skipped the Jets’ minicamp back in June. Now, he addressed that and a press conference and admitted that he was willing to accept the consequences.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jets QB Aaron Rodgers “knew the consequences” of skipping the team’s minicamp last month. It was mandatory and made headlines around the league due to Rodgers being the only notable starting quarterback to not be at his team’s minicamp. Here is what else Rodgers had to say about it:
“I’m an adult, I knew it what I was getting into, I knew what the fine would be.”

In addition to this, Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team provided further context to this. He revealed that Rodgers was a fan of Egypt for three decades and scheduled the trip based around last year’s mandatory minicamp schedule. So, when the minicamp schedule came out this year, Rodgers just did not change the dates of his trip. However, he emphasized that people outside the organization made a much bigger deal of it than people inside the organization.
New York Jets’ Camp Participation Problems
Aaron Rodgers is far from the biggest name the Jets have to worry about showing up to a camp. Right now, New York is dealing with a significant holdout. That comes from LB Haason Reddick, who is unhappy with his current contract after being traded to the Jets earlier this offseason. What is even more concerning about this one is the limited communication between Reddick and head coach Robert Saleh.
Aaron Rodgers and New York Jets Moving Forward
Rodgers has already expressed interest in playing multiple years for the Jets. However, he needs to prove that he is still capable of being the elite quarterback he was three years ago. After the team had a disappointing finish in 2023, it will be crucial for the Jets to put up a winning record in 2024.
