BREAKING: Matt LaFleur is a real grinch about Packers fans doing the wave on MNF

Way to be a fun sucker.

Hello Wisconsin: Matt LaFleur's Coaching Deserves Flowers

The Green Bay Packers recorded the first shutout of the 2024 NFL regular season, blanking the New Orleans Saints by a score of 34-0. Sometimes when games get too out of hand, even the home fans get a little bored, and that's what happened during Monday night's shutout win.

While the Packers were continuing to put up points on offense, the fans in the stands were loudly doing the wave. For those who might not know what the wave is, it's done at sporting events as a massive group effort. The wave starts in one section and makes its way around the stadium and when your turn comes, you put your arms up in the air and stand up, and then the process repeats itself until the wave dies out.

It's a silly thing that fans do at sporting events, typically when the action is slow-moving or the game is out of hand. Monday's Packers game fit the bill perfectly for fans starting up the wave but head coach Matt LaFleur was not happy about fans doing it while the team was on offense.

"I wasn't real happy in that moment. I love our fans and we got the best fans. I just wish they would've just waited a couple minutes until we got on defense and then do the wave non-stop," said LaFleur.

Matt LaFleur wished Packers fans would wait to do the wave

While yes, LaFleur was a little Grinch-y about all of this, this is a situation where we can't fault either side. Packers fans were trying to pass the time and have fun by doing the wave, but it's also understandable why LaFleur would be annoyed. The wave isn't exactly a quiet activity, as people typically will yell when their turn comes and they stand up to partake.

Whenever the offense is on the field, you want as much silence as possible so that Jordan Love can hear the play call and deliver it to the rest of his offense. When the wave was going on, it might have made it tougher for the offense to hear the call, and while the game was out of reach, it's still understandable why that'd frustrate the coaches and players.

So, Packers fans, you heard LaFleur. Next time you do the wave, wait to do it when the Packers are on defense.
