The Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers have had intense playoff battles over the years. San Francisco has had Green Bay’s number in the playoffs over the last several years. The 49ers won this past January’s battle over the Packers 24-21.
In the past few years, the 49ers have been to the Super Bowl twice and lost to the Kansas City Chiefs both times. The Packers have not been to the Super Bowl since the 2010 season when they won it all against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
This season, many people think that the Green Bay Packers will be Super Bowl contenders along with the San Francisco 49ers. Green Bay still has time to make moves to this roster before the start of the 2024 season.
Bold Trade Suggests the Green Bay Packers Should Trade Christian Watson and a Pick To the San Francisco 49ers For Either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel
Aiyuk and Samuel have both been mentioned in trade talks this offseason for San Francisco. It appears as if general manager Jon Lynch is going to hold onto them for the 2024 season. Brandon Aiyuk wants a new contract. Aiyuk is 26 years old and Samuel is 28 years old.
Lombardiavenue.com writer Sayre Bedinger thinks that a bold trade of sending Christian Watson and a draft pick to the 49ers for either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel would be a deal that would put Green Bay over the top this season. Bedinger wrote:
“The same logic for the Packers applies to players like Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel as it does with Tee Higgins. Although in the case of Deebo Samuel, you’re getting a bit older of a player and maybe a little more risk in the injury department. If the 49ers were willing to part with either of these guys, though, and Kyle Shanahan was willing to deal with his old pal Matt LaFleur, this could work out great for Green Bay.
Each of these players are legitimate game changers at the receiver position. Adding them as the focal point of the passing attack could take the Packers’ offense to the next level.”
It would probably be Brandon Aiyuk that the 49ers would trade over Deebo Samuel. Aiyuk caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards receiving, and seven touchdowns last season. He averaged 17.9 yards per catch and also was targeted 105 times.
Brandon Aiyuk would need a new contract as mentioned earlier, but the Green Bay Packers are more focused on giving quarterback Jordan Love a contract extension first. However, a receiving core of Aiyuk, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks would be lethal.
Adding Brandon Aiyuk to this offense would give the Green Bay Packers a true number-one wide receiver. Christian Watson is also entering his third NFL season.
