One of the Seattle Seahawks' biggest acquisitions in free agency arrived via the three-year deal John Schneider signed veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to. Lawrence is going to play a starring role alongside Derick Hall and Boye Mafe at EDGE in Mike Macdonald's defense. He'll replace Dre'Mont Jones, who was released from his contract earlier this offseason.
Lawrence's deal was initially reported as being worth "up to: $42 million with $18 million in guarantees. The more intimate details were not released at first reporting. Over The Cap has since updated that information. Lawrence will earn a modest base salary of $5.150 million with a prorated signing bonus of $2,333,333 million in 2024. The former Dallas Cowboy is guaranteed $6 million this coming season with a cap number slightly under $7.7 million.
Lawrence technically doesn't possess any guarantees heading into 2026. An additional $5 million will automatically trigger if Lawrence remains on the Seahawks' roster on February 10, 2026. The Seahawks could technically release him after just one campaign with the ability to create $7 million in 2026 cap space with just $4.2 million in dead money.
Even if Lawrence performs admirably, he almost certainly won't play out the entire three-year contract. He's scheduled to turn 35 in 2027, the final scheduled year of his agreement. If Lawrence survives the initial two years, the Seahawks could then create a sizable $10.7 million in cap space by releasing him prior to the 2027 campaign, with just $2.1 million in penalties.
