Former NBA player Brandon Jennings still shares his opinions about Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics. A few days ago, Jennings called Tatum the “softest superstar in Celtics history.” The 2024 champion responded by posting a series of photos of himself on Instagram while mocking the former Milwaukee Bucks point guard in his caption.
On Monday’s episode of “Gil’s Arena,” Jennings responded to Tatum’s post about him.
“We’ll just have to wait and see, May and June will be here very soon,” Jennings said about Tatum’s response on IG.
His co-host, Kenyon Martin Sr., said that just because Tatum didn’t win the Finals MVP in 2024, doesn’t mean he’s a soft player. Martin said that the Celtics wouldn’t have won the NBA title if it weren’t for his sacrifice.
However, Jennings mentioned that Tatum didn’t perform to the standard of being the face of the NBA.
“But you’re the best player in the NBA, right? You’re the face of the NBA… So that means, he shouldn’t be the face. You’re not producing the product that the NBA wants.
The former 10th pick brought up how he didn’t have playing time when he was part of the 2024 Team USA roster that competed in the Olympics.
“If you’re the best player in the world and all this, then why did they have you sitting down at the Olympics?”
Martin, on the other hand, debated that no one views Tatum as the face of the league. He also defended the Celtics star.
“Who said he’s the best player in the world?” Martin argued. “My point is, it ain’t about who’s the best player always that’s going to get the award. Jayson Tatum could’ve easily gotten it. People decided to vote for the other guy. Jaylen Brown did what he was supposed to do in the Finals to help them win. But they don’t get there without the play of the guy that made First Team All-NBA.”
Jennings continued to explain his side and compared Tatum and Jaylen Brown to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
“That’s like LeBron James going to the Finals and then Kyrie Irving or somebody else get Finals MVP. What the f**k are we talking about?”
The Celtics star isn’t surprised by what Jennings said about him
The Celtics player hasn’t been at all disturbed by anything Jennings has said to him. On Friday, Tatum revealed that he isn’t thinking about being called “soft” by a former player.
“Surprised? No. I think it comes with being one of the best players in the league,” Tatum said.
Tatum has established himself as one of the best players in the league and by winning the championship last season, he’s silenced the critics.
