The NFL’s most accomplished quarterback is now an official collector of the game’s greatest active signal caller.
In a new YouTube series with Complex of their debut episode of Card Shopping, seven-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady turned heads when he spent $75,000 on a Patrick Mahomes rookie card. As they say, game recognizes game (or something like that), and Brady has once again shown himself to be a strong supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
The Mahomes rookie was purchased at CardVault by Brady, located in the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey. But the best part wasn't about the money or the card; instead, it was what Brady said about Mahomes that stood out even more to Chiefs Kingdom.
“If [Mahomes] does break the records, and even last year they had a chance to go for a three-peat, I would have been so happy to be there to watch it,” Brady said during the video.
“When you accomplish a lot, and I was very fortunate to do that, you have people that are doing incredible things, and I always think we should talk about those things, how remarkable they really are. Because that's really what's inspiring about it. You want other people to always see what you're doing. You set a certain bar and then they go after it.”
Brady's status as the GOAT quarterback should have stood for a generation or more, but Mahomes' burgeoning legacy is threatening several of Brady's most impressive marks even before he's turned 30 years of age. Just when it felt like the NFL might not see another quarterback-led dynasty like the Patriots in quite some time, Mahomes ushered in a golden era for the Chiefs.
Brady's purchase is another sign that what Mahomes is doing in Kansas City has already earned him a place in the pantheon. When someone like Brady is actively cheering him on—and dropping five figures to own a piece of his early career—it’s clear that Mahomes’ historic run isn't just drawing everyone's attention. It's also drawing their admiration.
Tom Brady's appreciation for Mahomes is nothing new. He's gone on record before about how he believes Mahomes to be the greatest active quarterback in the game. This time, Brady literally put his money where his mouth is—to the tune of a $75K rookie card.
