Bold pitch has the Seahawks making a move for Cowboys' Micah Parsons

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider is not afraid to make a deal. He has done so in the past by adding left tackle Duane Brown in 2018, Jadeveon Clowney in 2019, and Jamal Adams in 2020. That last one did not work out very well, though.

In the last few years, Seattle has seemingly tried to build through the draft while not overspending in free agency. Schneider has still made several trades, but not with the expected impact of the previous three mentioned.

Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys

That could change based on an idea by Hayden Victoria of Pro Football Network. The Seahawks could, in theory, land Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons.

Pitched idea has the Seahawks landing Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons

Parsons is likely not happy that his rookie contract has not yet been turned into a long-term extension by Dallas. He is going to be extremely expensive, but he is also fantastically productive. He had at least 13 sacks in each of his first three seasons, and last year, in only 13 games, he had 12. He is also stout against the run.

But he will cost a lot whenever an extension or new deal is worked out. The Cowboys have cap issues in 2026, however. They currently have just a bit over $5 million to spend, and that isn't enough room for a new Parsons deal. The team will have to release a quality player or two to make room for the edge rusher.

The Seahawks are in much better shape financially, as Seattle is in the top 10 in cap room over the next three years. Some upcoming endings for rookie deals will affect that, though. Left tackle Charles Cross is a must-keep, and his contract ends after 2026. Running back Kenneth Walker III and edge rusher Boye Mafe have contracts that end after 2025.

But the possibility of adding Parsons might be too much to pass on. He is a transcendent player. He would make the potential absence of Mafe more than OK. He would also be a perfect fit in head coach Mike Macdonald's defensive system.

Victoria does not offer any information about what the Seahawks would send to the Cowboys, but Mafe could be part of the deal as well as a first-round draft picks (at least one). Other teams might be in the mix, too, however. Victoria names the Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and New York Jets as potential landing spots for the edge rusher.

If Schneider has a chance to add Parsons, he should. The Seahawks can afford him, and he would make Seattle's defense elite.
