Bold & Beautiful Just Zigged When We Were *Sure* They’d Zag — Which Could Mean [Spoiler] Is On Her Way Out!

How you felt about this week’s episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful will depend largely on how invested you are in Liam’s health crisis. I admit, I’m torn, for reasons we’ll discuss in a moment. But we also need to have a chat about Steffy suddenly becoming the arbiter of truth where her ex-husband’s secret is concerned, and the latest case of rebounding romances. Ready? Let’s dive in!

Hope For Their Future?

Up until the final moments of Friday’s episode, I felt as if we were moments away from breaking out the folding chairs and gathering in Eric’s living room for yet another wedding. Of course, it would be downright tacky to have Carter officiate the nuptials of Liam and Hope, but he’s such a good guy I honestly think he’d have done it. (And yes, by “good guy” I mean “sucker.”)

More: There’s a big ol’ hole in the ‘Liam’s dying’ plot!

But then Carter overheard Hope and Liam’s conversation and did what Bold & Beautiful characters do… which we’ll discuss momentarily.

Obviously, there’s a whole lot of debate taking place among fans as to whether Liam will or won’t die. (Which is a completely separate conversation from the one regarding whether he should or shouldn’t. Some of y’all are vicious!) Personally, I really, really, really — like, to infinity and beyond — need Liam to die. This has nothing to do with Scott Clifton (whose performances have been spectacular and heartbreaking). It doesn’t really even have anything to do with Liam.

But to put the audience through this, fresh on the heels of the exact same story being told with Eric, only works for me if this time, the hero dies at the end.

Carter’s Next Move

The moment Liam arrived to visit Hope, I knew exactly what was going to happen… and not simply because the show revealed it in the preview. Because when he walked into Brooke’s home, he very clearly left the door open… and on this show, that can only mean one thing. Someone will overhear something and immediately respond, despite not knowing the context.

So of course Carter rebounded right into the arms of The Nose. I liked Daphne when she came on board because she wasn’t written like a typical Bold & Beautiful woman. She was fierce, strong, willing to play sexual games and able to do so without getting caught up in messy emotions. Or so it seemed. But now, she’s perfectly willing to  be Carter’s second choice. I mean, what is in the Los Angeles water that it turns smart, talented women into wanna-be Stepford wives?

The question we were left with is whether Hope will get to Carter before he and Daphne make love. Based on the teasers for next week — which you can read here — it certainly sounds as if Hope and Carter are heading for a reunion. If that happens, I have to wonder just how long Daphne will remain on the canvas. It’s not as if she’s been given a whole lot of story, aside from lusting after Carter…

Truth Be Told

I was 100 percent supportive of Steffy telling Hope about Liam’s condition. While I might have initially had an issue with it, the writers played the beat perfectly. Steffy and Hope are both moms, so the former knew how important it was for the latter to be fully aware of the situation. I’m always a sucker for soaps putting longtime rivals in the position of supporting one another.

Assuming the two women continue to bond over their mutual grief, one has to wonder what will happen if and when Liam is removed from the scenario. Do Steffy and Hope go back to butting heads or do they finally, in the name of Liam, put aside their differences for good?

Meanwhile, I’m struggling with the fact that nobody has told Bill. Steffy felt like it was ok to tell her mom, but is going to continue keeping Liam’s father and siblings in the dark? I was glad that Steffy, Finn and Taylor at least had a conversation about whether or not others should be looped in, but they seem to have decided to honor Liam’s wishes… except, you know, where Hope and Taylor are concerned.

For what it’s worth, I absolutely, positively despised the Bill/Liam reunion scenes this week. Don’t get me wrong, both Clifton and Diamont gave lovely performances. But Bill’s change of heart (and downright sappiness) came out of absolutely nowhere.

Random Thoughts…

• How is it that no one has commented on Liam’s headdress? I don’t buy for a minute that Dollar Bill wouldn’t have immediately said, “Take that silly thing off your head.” So far only Liam himself has made the most casual of references to it a single time, while talking to Hope.

• Bill made a point of saying to Sheila that he’d told Deacon to “keep her away.” But here’s a thought: Why doesn’t Bill take his business to one of the other restaurants around town? I’m told that there are at least three other places to eat in the Greater Los Angeles area.

• I’m tired of hearing Luna says she’s “taking responsibility” for what she’s done when that is complete and total BS. And we’re still left with the burning question of where, exactly, she’s currently living. This show loves to simply ignore burning questions… such as where RJ is.
