Jack Wagner returned to The Bold and the Beautiful this week to kick off his first extended story arc since 2012 — and chances are good that it won’t be his last. Not only does his on-screen counterpart — Ridge Forrester’s half sibling rival, Nick Marone — pursue lost love Brooke Logan with the same fervent determination as ever, but the actor himself hints that the end of his summer comeback may only be the beginning.
Wagner and Bold & Beautiful executive producer/headwriter Bradley Bell go way back — Nick first sailed onto the soap in 2003. And it sounds like they’ll be going way forward, too. As the alum of General Hospital, Santa Barbara and Melrose Place was slipping into his former role again, “Brad and I talked about [what could be ahead],” he tells Soap Opera Digest. “I think… he sees an opportunity here to have this be a first chapter, potentially, for” star-crossed lovers Nick and Brooke.
“So I think there’s potential,” he adds, “for Nick to have life on Bold & Beautiful.” At least when the in-demand actor isn’t busy working on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart.
Music to Fans’ Ears
If Nick does wind up dropping anchor in L.A. once again, it opens up a treasure chest full of story possibilities. First and foremost, Brooke could once and for all stop pining for “her destiny” — even though “her destiny” has dumped her about a zillion times to run back to his other favorite ex, Taylor Hayes.
Beyond that, though, with the Marone fortune in his bank account, Nick could take on Ridge not only romantically but professionally, restarting Jackie M and challenging his brother to a fashion war the likes of which we haven’t seen… gee, in eons. Nick’s mom Jackie could return to once again catch Eric Forrester’s eye. (Watch out, Donna.) And he could call Madame X — aka Bridget Forrester — out of retirement to design for his firm.
Conflict Dead Ahead
If you think Bridget working for Jackie M would ruffle Forrester feathers, imagine if Nick also enticed former stepdaughter Hope Logan to come work with him. On one hand, you might think, “Ah, she won’t ever butt heads with Steffy Forrester again.” But on the other, nah-ah. Steffy would have to be ticked that after burying the hatchet with Hope and welcoming her back at Forrester, she went and joined Nick’s rival firm!
