The Buffalo Bills offense proved they can still operate at a high level without Stefon Diggs anchoring the wide receiver room, which was evident with Josh Allen being named NFL MVP in 2025. Yet, questions still remain about who is going to be the go-to receiver for the superstar quarterback this upcoming season.
Well, positive reports for one Bills WR from Sunday’s practice could potentially foreshadow a breakout year for a talented player entering his second season.
Keon Coleman Impresses Throughout Sunday’s Practice at Training Camp
Buffalo Bills reporter Maddy Glab from BuffaloBills.com named Keon Coleman’s impressive performance as one of the top takeaways from Sunday’s practice session.
Glab wrote, “Wide receiver Keon Coleman had a day full of impressive catches. During the first few plays of team period, Josh Allen found Coleman down the sideline for a nice play. Later, Allen targeted Coleman again near the sideline. Coleman was in traffic but managed to catch the ball in stride and hustle into the end zone. Allen did a fantastic job of placing the ball in an area where only Coleman could get to.”
Coleman fast start at practice was capped off by another head-turning reception in the end zone towards the end of Sunday’s practice session.
Glab added, “Coleman’s best play of the day came near the end of practice. Allen trusted the wide receiver to get him six on a play in the front of the end zone. The QB tossed up a beautiful ball to Coleman. The wide receiver got air and extended backwards to secure the ball and stepped into the corner of the end zone while a corner blanketed him.”
Coleman is a highilight reel waiting to happen in contested catch situations. His physicality at the catchpoint combined with his vertical athleticism at 6’4” 215 pounds help him produce some truly jaw-dropping receptions that suggest he is a future star in the league.
Unfortunately, the struggles of being able to consistently create separation as a route runner were evident at times throughout his rookie year.
Coleman’s 19.17 yards per reception was one of the highest marks in the league for receivers who saw more than 50 targets in 2024, but was paired with a modest total stat line of 29 receptions for 556 yards due to injuries and lack of consistent volume in the passing game.
Will Keon Coleman Breakout in 2025?
Coleman’s flashes of elite talent were enough for PFF’s Bradley Locker to boldly name the FSU product to his 2025 NFL All-Breakout Team earlier this offseason.
Locker wrote, “Assuming Coleman can clean up his catch rate — his 13.5% drop rate was the eighth-highest among receivers with 50-plus targets — then his play should only improve. Coleman may not be a separating whiz, as he sat in the 0th percentile in separation rate and the second percentile against single coverage, but his abilities as a deep threat and with the ball in his hands should render him one of Josh Allen’s top targets.”
The lone noteworthy addition of Joshua Palmer to this WR room suggests the team still believes Coleman is going to be a big part of this passing attack in 2025.
If Coleman can become a bit more reliable as a route runner while continuing to produce explosive plays at the clip we saw from him in his rookie year, then Coleman could truly emerge as a breakout player in 2025.
