This offseason, the Buffalo Bills went out and made sure quarterback Josh Allen was provided with a few more receivers.
During the last season, the Bills traded for Cleveland Browns receiver Amari Cooper, who was expected to play a significant role in the offense. But Cooper only appeared in eight games, recording 297 receiving yards and two scores.
Cooper is now a free agent, and the Bills seemed to have no plans to bring him back. Instead, the team went out and signed former Los Angeles Chargers receiver Joshua Palmer and Browns receiver Elijah Moore.
Palmer and Moore are supposed to play a significant role in the offense this season, but a young receiver should be Allen’s No. 1 target.
Bills Need To Create A Plan For Keon Coleman
During the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bills took Florida State receiver Keon Coleman, and Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report thinks it’s time for Buffalo to create a plan for him.
“Head coach Sean McDermott and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, meanwhile, need to set up a plan for second-year receiver Keon Coleman,” Knox wrote. “The 2024 second-round pick was expected to become Josh Allen’s new go-to wideout, but his rookie numbers (556 yards, 4 TDs) left plenty to be desired. It’s imperative that the Bills figure out how to highlight Coleman’s strengths and create a rapport between him and Allen.”
Coleman should be able to take over the receiving room alongside Khalil Shakir, but the Bills need to ensure that Coleman is part of the team’s plan week in and week out.
The 22-year-old receiver missed four regular-season games last year due to a wrist injury, which likely slowed down his rookie season and his learning curve in adapting to the highest level of play.
Coleman Needs To Step Up This Season
If Coleman can turn into the player the Bills thought they were getting when they drafted him in 2024, then the Buffalo offense could be the best in the NFL.
Allen doesn’t need to have the greatest players around him since he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and can produce a lot of plays on his own. However, it would be nice if Coleman could be solid and help Allen out in critical situations.
The Bills know they need to put everything together this season because they could lose starting running back James Cook at the end of the year if he doesn’t secure a new contract.
Buffalo should try everything they can to reach the Super Bowl, and if that means making Coleman into the No. 1 receiver on the team, then they have to do it.
Coleman is also facing an issue that he can’t control, and that’s Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy, who was drafted in the spot the Bills traded away in 2024.
Coleman must ensure he can outplay Worthy and prove to the fans that the Bills made the right choice, trading out of drafting Worthy and opting for Coleman instead.
