Bills QB Mitch Trubisky’s Wife Sends Message Before Preseason Start

The Buffalo Bills take on the New York Giants in their 2025 preseason opener on Saturday, August 9.

While Bills head coach Sean McDermott plans to kick off the game with their first-team unit, quarterback Josh Allen will not be starting. It remains unclear if Allen will take any preseason snaps.

Starting against the Giants at Highmark Stadium is veteran Mitch Trubisky. The former No. 2 overall pick from the 2017 NFL draft served as Allen’s backup during the 2021 NFL season.

The following season, Trubisky moved on to join the Pittsburgh Steelers as their new starting quarterback, but things didn’t go well. After signing a two-year $14.25 million contract that included up to $27 million in incentives, his time as a starter was brief.

By week 5 of the 2022 season, Pittsburgh benched Trubisky in favor of then-rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett. He made two more starts during the 2023 season, recording 67 passes for 107 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Trubisky returned to Buffalo and signed a two-year, $5.25 million contract with Buffalo ahead of the 2024 season. While he faces competition with Mike White as Allen’s backup this year, Trubisky is currently slated at No. 2 on the depth chart. The 30-year-old has a chance to further secure that role on Saturday.

Last season, Trubisky was used sparingly as Allen’s backup. He appeared in nine games, completing 19-of-26 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Mitch Trubisky’s Wife, Hillary Trubisky, Is Excited For the 2025 NFL Season

Trubisky is married to Hillary Trubisky, and together they share a son named Hudson, who celebrated his third birthday in May. Hillary, who’s no stranger to Buffalo, sent a supportive message to her husband after the “Return of the Red & Blue” practice last week.

She posted a picture on the field with Trubisky and wrote, “Football is almost back ♥️🏈.” The Bills’ backup commented, “😍😍❤❤.” Hillary and Hudson also visited Trubisky during training camp at St. John Fisher University. She posted a photo of the family and wrote, “Year 9 ❤️‍🔥.”

Bills general manager Brandon Beane’s wife, Hayley Beane, gushed in the comments section, “My buddy! He looks too old! 🥹 He’s growing up too fast!” Wide receiver Khalil Shakir’s wife, Sayler Shakir, commented, “Love the Trubisky’s 🫶🏻.”

Josh Allen Exuded Full Confidence In Mitch Trubisky Ahead Of His Start Against New York

Allen and Trubisky remained friends even when they weren’t teammates. Trubisky and his wife attended the MVP’s wedding to Hailee Steinfeld in May.

Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Allen gave Trubisky a full nod of confidence. “He’s just been putting his head down and working as hard as he can and he has been making some good plays out there. Hopefully, we can roll that into the game on Saturday,” Allen said.

“He’s has played in a lot of really big games in his life. And to have somebody with that experience, who’s seen those things and he’s been in a couple of offenses and to have that mindset and that knowledge, it’s a great tool for me.”
