Bills’ Offense Receives Elite Ranking Despite Unit Not Being ‘Perfect’

The Buffalo Bills offense faced some questions entering last year with the departure of Stefon Diggs and the lack of a definitive go-to WR entering the 2025 NFL season.

Josh Allen

One NFL analyst has enough faith in reigning MVP Josh Allen to keep things rolling on that side of the ball entering the 2025 NFL season.

Josh Allen Fuels Bills’ Top 5 Offensive Ranking from PFSN

Kyle Soppe of Pro Football & Sports Network gave the appropriate amount of respect warranted for league MVP Josh Allen by ranking the Buffalo Bills offense as a top 5 group entering the 2025 NFL season.

Soppe wrote, “The Buffalo Bills of the early 1990s were always representing the AFC in The Big Game and now, in the 2020s, they are the standard when it comes to Offense+. Josh Allen and company have ranked as a top-eight unit in each of the past five seasons, a run that includes three straight finishes inside the top five.”

Josh Allen has played the role of Superman for this Bills’ offense over the last five seasons. He has thrown for a minimum of 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns in five straight years.

When you combine Allen’s passing production with his rushing floor of 400+ yards and 6+ rushing touchdowns, then it becomes easy to understand why this offense continues to be amongst the best in the league under his leadership.

Allen earned his first league MVP by throwing for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Cleaning up his turnovers was one of the biggest reasons this offense managed to succeed in 2024 without a definitive go-to receiver.

Soppe added, “Buffalo’s offense may not be perfect, and a Lombardi Trophy has yet to come its way, but when it comes to stability, no organization has done it better on this side of the ball.”

Speaking of situations that aren’t perfect, the contract negotiations between the Bills and James Cook is certainly worth monitoring as we enter training camp.

Cook exploded for 18 total touchdowns in 2024 and wants a new deal after showcasing his true worth to this offense in last year’s postseason.

Sure, Cook’s 1,009 rushing yards on just 207 attempts doesn’t scream feature back workload at the negotiating table, but his explosiveness and versatility add an element to this offense that they may not find so easy to replace if he holds out for a new deal.

How Concerning is This Bills WR Group Entering the 2025 NFL Season

The Bills collection of pass catchers was mostly disappointing in 2024.

Sure, Khalil Shakir had a career year with 76 receptions for 821 yards and four scores, but there wasn’t much else to get excited about from this group.

Keon Coleman flashed explosive playmaking ability with 19.17 yards per reception, but only finished with 29 receptions for 556 yards and four scores while struggling to consistently create separation against NFL cornerbacks.

Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins are gone, Curtis Samuel could be on the chopping block, and Joshua Palmer feels like a discount version of Gabe Davis.

To make matters worse, Dalton Kincaid failed to emerge as an elite pass-catching TE in his second season. The Utah product caught just 44 passes for 448 yards and two scores in 2024.

Ultimately, the Bills’ offense survived the loss of Diggs because of Allen’s greatness and an underrated offensive line in 2024.

As long as No. 17 is healthy, the Bills’ offense should be productive. Yet, the lack of dynamic playmakers around Allen could rear its ugly head in big moments if these younger prospects don’t take a big step forward in 2025.
